Trouble at the Orchard

“Ray, this is ridiculous.  You have to talk to the banker,” Carla said.  The orchard was in trouble.

“You’re right, sweetie.  I’ll sit with the bank and get to the core of the issue,” Ray said, tapping a pencil against a notebook.

“You’re not going to do that. You’re not going to make apple puns while avoiding bankruptcy,” Carla’s patience was in trouble too.

“You know, I don’t think I can come up with any others.  My whole life on an orchard; tapped out at ‘core,'” Ray said.

“Come up with more after saving the farm and we’ll throw you a gala,” Carla said.

“Heeeey, nice one,” Ray congratulated her.

“Thank you. Now go save our land.”

“I’m on it.”
