A knock sounded in his head. It was a call; a siren’s song reaching out and pleading for attention. Sweat began to drip from his brow.
Can’t, he hushed the knocking and returned to his chores.
The vacuum roared, drowning out his thoughts but the knocking returned louder than before.
The temptation overcame him. The machine silenced, he stepped to the source of his woes ever so slowly.
He screamed to the empty room, “silence! I can wait for Halloween!” He turned and fled from the cabinet containing the candy calling his name. Halloween couldn’t come soon enough.
